Love Promise Stories from Bloomington Subaru

Subaru and Bloomington Subaru believe in making a positive impact on the communities in which we live and work. We uphold that belief through our Love Promise Community Commitment. Every month, we select inspiring stories from customers and partners from around our area who strive to support our collective commitment and feature them here.

Bloomington Subaru Helps Grow a Greener Community Through Subaru Loves the Earth

At Bloomington Subaru, we're proud to be part of Subaru's commitment to making a positive impact on the environment and the communities we serve. Through the annual Subaru Loves the Earth® initiative in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, our team recently helped distribute more than 100 free trees to local community members. Trees play a vital role in creating healthier neighborhoods. They help improve air quality, provide shade, support local wildlife, and contribute to a more beautiful environment for everyone to enjoy. By placing trees directly into the hands of residents, we are helping create a lasting impact that will continue to grow for years to come. The tree giveaway was a wonderful opportunity to connect with our community while promoting environmental stewardship. Whether planted in backyards, parks, or community spaces, these trees will help strengthen our local ecosystem and contribute to a greener future throughout Bloomington and the surrounding area. As a Subaru retailer, Bloomington Subaru is honored to support programs that align with Subaru's commitment to protecting and preserving the planet. We would like to thank everyone who participated and helped make this year's Subaru Loves the Earth® event a success. Together, we're not just planting trees—we're growing a healthier, more sustainable community for future generations.

Bloomington Subaru Supports Westwood Elementary School with Food Drive

Bloomington Subaru was proud to support our local community through a recent Food Drive held April 14th through April 20th. In partnership with Bloomington Public Schools and VEAP, we came together to support the students and families of Westwood Elementary School. This effort focused on helping ensure essential items are accessible to those who need them most right here in our community. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we collected a full box of donations along with additional cash contributions. Donations included shelf-stable food, baby care items, personal care products, and household essentials—all of which will make a meaningful impact for Westwood Elementary families. We're incredibly grateful to everyone who participated and helped make this initiative a success. We look forward to continuing to support and strengthen our Bloomington community.

Over 500 Jackets Donated to Avivo

Bloomington Subaru recently donated more than 500 winter jackets to Avivo, a Minneapolis-based nonprofit that serves thousands of people across Minnesota. The jackets include a wide range of sizes — from children's to adult — ensuring that families, individuals, and youth can stay warm as winter temperatures drop. Avivo works with people facing barriers such as homelessness, unemployment, mental health challenges, poverty, and addiction. For more than 60 years, the organization has offered services that help individuals find housing stability, pursue recovery, and achieve employment and economic advancement. Winter weather can be especially difficult for people who don't have reliable winter clothing. Bloomington Subaru's donation helps fill that essential need by providing warm jackets to people connected with Avivo's programs and services. These jackets will make a real difference for those who may otherwise struggle to stay warm. We're grateful to partner with Avivo once again and support their mission to help people live well and work well in our community!

Empowering Students at Valley View Elementary

Through Subaru Loves Learning, Bloomington Subaru continued its commitment to supporting local education at Valley View Elementary School. In 2025 alone, the partnership supported 20 classrooms, helping provide essential learning tools and resources that directly benefited 521 students. Since 2021, Bloomington Subaru has donated $42,900, supporting 81 classrooms and more than 2,000 students in the community. Teachers used Subaru-funded resources for books, basic supplies, flexible seating, STEM education, technology, and creative materials—ensuring students had what they needed to succeed both academically and emotionally. Nationally, the program has supported nearly 1 million students and delivered more than 900,000 classroom items to schools. After five years of partnership, Subaru Loves Learning continues to make a meaningful difference—empowering teachers, enriching classrooms, and helping students thrive.

Bloomington Subaru Donates $4000 to Midwest Animal & Rescue Services

Supporting animals in need takes more than good intentions—it takes committed partnerships, community engagement, and meaningful action. Subaru's 2025 Impact Summary shows just how powerful that combination can be. Through its ongoing collaboration with the ASPCA® and local rescue organizations like Midwest Animal Rescue & Services (MARS), Subaru helped create real, measurable change for animals nationwide. In 2025 alone, Subaru-supported initiatives: impacted over 110,000 animals, distributed $3,198,000 in grant funding, and helped shelters and rescues provide critical care, adoption support, and resources. These funds ensured animals received vaccinations, microchips, veterinary treatment, and the care they needed to be ready for loving homes. At the community level, Bloomington Subaru played a vital role in making this impact personal. With $4,000 donated, their support helped prepare 55 animals for adoption, including dogs, cats, and senior or special-needs pets often referred to as "underdogs.". According to Amy Swenson, Executive Director of MARS, the partnership has been invaluable—praising the Bloomington Subaru team for being responsive, collaborative, and always willing to problem-solve to help animals succeed. The heart of the impact comes alive through stories like Audrey's. During a Subaru Loves Pets adoption event, a longtime MARS adopter—still grieving the loss of a beloved dog—met Audrey. What started as a foster-to-adopt situation quickly turned into something more. Tail wags, kisses, and an instant sense of "home" made it clear: Audrey was meant to stay. Today, Audrey is thriving, and her adopters say their hearts feel whole again—a reminder that these programs don't just change animals' lives, they heal people too. Subaru's continued commitment shows how corporate responsibility can extend far beyond donations. By investing in local rescues and national partners, Subaru helps transform compassion into action—and action into forever families. Because every adoption story is proof that when communities come together, lives are changed for the better.

Subaru helps make wishes come true for kids like Ellie!

Every year, Subaru dealerships help turn hope into a reality for Minnesota kids facing a critical illness. This year, members of the Subaru team at Bloomington Subaru joined Make-A-Wish Minnesota and wish dad, Charlie, to learn firsthand how their generosity creates life-changing moments for wish families. Charlie shared the story of his son's wish to go to Disney World to meet Buzz Lightyear. For their family, the wish meant more than a vacation; it was a chance to reconnect and create memories together after a difficult health journey. Subaru’s impact also reaches kids like Ellie. When Ellie was born, a rare metabolic disorder caused her to stop breathing, leading to multiple brain injuries and lifelong seizures. Today, at nine years old, Ellie continues to fight daily battles with her health. Despite these challenges, she finds joy in the stars. When Ellie was referred to Make-A-Wish Minnesota, she knew exactly what she wished for: a trip to Yellowstone to see the stars in all their glory. During the day, Ellie explored geysers, wildlife, and natural wonders. At night, her family gathered around the campfire making s’mores and watching the sky light up with stars. “Seeing Ellie’s face light up each day was my favorite part,” her mom, Nichole shared. “The wish was a breath of fresh air for our entire family.” Because of Subaru’s continued support through Share the Love, wishes like Ellie’s and Charlie’s son, Aaron, are made possible. Together, Subaru and Make-A-Wish Minnesota are delivering hope, strength, and unforgettable joy to families when they need it most.

Pet Adoption Event At Bloomington Subaru

We recently had the absolute pleasure of teaming up with Midwest Animal Rescue & Services (MARS) again for a heartwarming pet adoption event — and what an unforgettable day it was! From the moment the first wagging tails arrived, the energy was filled with joy, love, and anticipation. Families came out in full force, ready to meet their new furry companions, and we were thrilled to witness so many pets find their forever homes. The dedication of the MARS team was truly inspiring, their passion for rescue work shines in everything they do! Events like this remind us just how powerful community and compassion can be. Seeing happy adopters meet their new best friends, knowing these animals now have a second chance, was incredibly rewarding. We're so grateful to MARS for letting us be a part of their mission, and to everyone who came out to adopt, volunteer, or simply show support. Here’s to more lives saved, more hearts healed, and more tails wagging in the future!

HealthPartners Frauenshuh Cancer Center Patients Receive Gifts from Bloomington Subaru

For ten years, Subaru of America retailers across the country have been partnering with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) to bring warmth and compassion to blood cancer patients through the Subaru Loves to Care Initiative. Subaru believes in “being a positive force in the communities in which we live and work, not just with donations, but with actions that set an example for others to follow”. Once again Bloomington Subaru has gone above and beyond by contributing $10,000 to LLS to provide financial relief to help offset non-medical costs associated with treatment, such as transportation, food, housing, utilities, etc. for families through LLS’s Urgent Need Program, Pediatric. LLS Upper Plains Executive Director, Kortney Hamm, expressed her gratitude saying, “Our partnership with Subaru continues to provide hope, community, comfort, and support to cancer patients in our communities. We couldn’t be more grateful for the continued engagement from our local hospital partnerships and the Subaru teams in showing how we can rally for patients that we serve.”

Strength and New Beginnings

Mobley is the epitome of strength and new beginnings. Mobley and his very best dog friend found themselves sitting in a shelter after their owner moved away. Both dogs came from horrific conditions, living in their own feces and urine which ultimately left Mobley with limited vision. His best friend, on the other hand, was riddled with cancer and sadly crossed the rainbow bridge shortly after arriving at the shelter. Mobley was now left to sit alone in a shelter so overcrowded that dogs had to be euthanized due to space. He shut down and gave up…. Until MARS stepped in! When we heard about Mobley’s story we knew we had to help. We were able to get him out of the shelter and into a quiet foster home so he could have time to decompress. While living with his foster family, we learned Mobley is great with kids, enjoys going on walks, and loves to snuggle his people! He was finally given an opportunity to relax and simply be a dog. On Saturday October 21st Mobley found his forever home at our Subaru Loves Pets Adoption Event… just in time for Make A Dog’s Day! We are so happy for Mobley and his new family and cannot thank our Subaru partner enough for choosing to work with us for this great cause!

Catholic Charities is one of the largest non-profit organizations in the greater Minneapolis-St. Paul region. They serve some of the poorest communities in our area and strive to help people out of poverty, illness, abuse, and more. Bloomington Subaru's donation is just one of many that goes towards helping over 23,000 people in our community. From food-to-clothes, anything helps! We hope this donation will help inspire others to donate and show we can all make a positive change in the world!

Subaru Loves Washburn

For two years in a row, Bloomington Subaru has been our partner in education. This year every teacher and staff member in the building benefited from their generosity. Not only did we receive money to use with Adopt-A-Classroom, they also collected a bounty of supplies. We were excited to see all of the notebooks, pencils, scissors, cleaning wipes... All of the things a school can use. I was also moved when Bloomington Subaru reached out to me personally and asked for any special items that we were in need of. At the time we were in short supply of backpacks. The store delivered for us and came through with the much needed backpacks. They have also pledged to help in the future with any other needs that may come up. I love Subaru and I love how they care.

Bloomington Subaru Gifts Patients of Frauenshuh Cancer Center

Bloomington Subaru is committed to making a positive impact on the communities in which they live and work through the Subaru Love Promise – and on July 26th they proved that to the staff and patients of Frauenshuh Cancer Center. Throughout the month of June, the Subaru staff invited their customers to write notes of encouragement to local blood cancer patients and then delivered these notes along with craft kits and 80 warm fleece blankets to Frauenshuh Cancer Center as a show of support for the patients. Subaru team member Noah stated “For me I love this program that we have as I love seeing the face of the patients as we are handing them their blankets and hearing their stories and their successes. Unfortunately, we did not get to meet with any of them this year due to Covid, but I have been doing this long enough I can still imagine them.” The staff of Frauenshuh will share these blankets and notes with the patients when they come in for their treatments over the coming weeks. Mike Niles of the Park Nicollet Foundation at the Frauenshuh Cancer Center states they are “always trying to create a better experience for our patients and their families as they deal with multiple challenges during their cancer journeys. Subaru’s gifts of blankets, craft kits, and cards also improve the experience of our patients during their clinic visits, providing comfort, activities, and a pleasant distraction. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is proud to be able to connect generous community businesses with their local cancer centers to improve the quality of life of cancer patients and their families.

Announcing a new Charity Partner!

For the first year, we are proud to partner with the Ronald McDonald House. As an additional gift during Share the Love, we’ve chosen to pledge another $75 per vehicle ordered. The Ronald McDonald house provides lodging, meals, access to pantries, kitchens and laundry, an accredited K-12 school, and family-focused programing. We cannot imagine how hard it is to have loved ones in and out of the hospital, especially during a pandemic. To help lessen the burden on these families, we are excited to donate an additional $75 from every Subaru order until the end of the year.

Every year, Bloomington Subaru partners with Toys for Tots and is an official Drop off Location. We always look forward to giving back throughout the year, but it holds a special importance to us during the holidays. We are so thankful that we can help make a child’s holiday a little brighter, even if it is just a toy to some. Throughout the store, we collected new, unwrapped toys, with both customers and employees donating to the cause. This year, because of COVID-19, after collecting toys for the month of December, the Service department loaded the 4 full boxes of Toys into a festive Red Subaru and brought the toys to the local headquarters. 2020 topped 2019 in terms of toy donations, and plan to top in for the 2021 season.

Blankets to help Homeless Youth

In recognition of Homeless Youth Awareness Month, and to kick off Subaru Share the Love, Bloomington Subaru donated 80 new, all weather blankets to Hope Street Shelter for Young Adults. The Shelter located in Minneapolis, offers support to young adults ages 18-22. Hope Street Shelter provides basic needs- shelter, food, and laundry to at risk youth. The average stay at Hope Street is 30 days, and as the weather in Minnesota gets colder, we understand the importance of a warm blanket of your own. We were happy to support them, and packed a Subaru full of blankets to Hope Street Shelter.

Sustainable Options at Bloomington Subaru

As a store Bloomington Subaru is committed to keeping our planet healthy and believe that little steps can make a huge difference. This year, we phased out the use of Styrofoam cups and implemented a healthier option for our plant. At our coffee bar we now have compostable hot & cold cups, lids, and sleeves. Along with our commitment to Terracycle, the recycling of snack wrappers, coffee and drinkware, Bloomington Subaru’s goal is to limit our waste. We are proud to have taken our part of the 8 million metric tons of plastic that enters the ocean year and switch to a sustainable option.

#SubaruLovesToCare with LLS + Frauenshuh

This was the third year in a row that Bloomington Subaru, Subaru of America and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) came together to spread love, hope, and warmth to cancer patients and their families across the country. On Thursday, June 28, 2018, as part of the national Subaru Loves to Care program, Bloomington Subaru and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society delivered blankets, cards of hope, and arts and crafts kits to patients at Frauenshuh Cancer Center. Noah Joseph, as well as several employees of the Bloomington Dealership, came to represent Subaru. One of the employees is a pediatric leukemia survivor, which made the delivery especially moving to Bloomington Subaru. They lit up the room when they brought in the gifts and brightened everyone’s day with their positive attitudes and smiles. Several patients were available to accept the blankets and expressed nothing but gratitude for the support and gesture of warmth. This program has had a huge impact on communities and their support continues to be a source of inspiration for patients and families. Thank you, Bloomington Subaru!

Subaru and NWF Love the Earth!

At Great River School we love bugs and bees...and fruit and veggies! We added the native plants for pollinators so generously donated to us by Bloomington Subaru to the edges of our existing vegetable garden to give some food to the insects while they also help pollinate our food! The garden will come alive with butterflies and bees all summer and will greet the students when they return at the end of the summer. Thanks Subaru and National Wildlife Federation!

Partnering with LLS + Frauenshuh for 2nd Year

For the second year in a row, Bloomington Subaru, Subaru of America and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) are spreading love, hope and warmth to cancer patients and their families in communities across the country. This June, customers visiting Bloomington Subaru were given the chance to write personalized messages of hope to patients in their local community. Those care cards were then handed out alongside a blanket to provide comfort and warmth to patients during their cancer journey. On June 20, 2017 Noah Joseph and Chad Conti of Bloomington Subaru joined LLS staff at Frauenshuh Cancer Center in St. Louis Park to deliver blankets, care cards, and craft kits to brighten the spirits of their blood cancer patients. This event was especially touching for Bloomington Subaru because one of their very own employees, Chad, is a pediatric leukemia survivor himself. At the age of three, Chad was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and endured three long years of treatment. Now at age 34 he’s cancer free and was excited to give back during Subaru Loves to Care month. That day, Chad was even lucky enough to hand deliver one of the blankets to a newly diagnosed patient while he received chemotherapy. Chad said, "I am incredibly thankful for companies like Subaru who give children and adults alike the opportunity to live a full life by giving of their time and donations to make things like this happen.”

Luther Subaru delivers blankets to Frauenshuh

On June 28, 2016 LLS Ambassador Pat Harwood accepted 60 blankets donated by Luther Subaru on behalf of cancer patients currently being treated at Frauenshuh Cancer Center -Park Nicollet. Pat knows firsthand the importance of spreading hope to patients fighting cancer. In 1996, Pat was diagnosed with stage three multiple myeloma, an incurable cancer of the plasma cells in the bone marrow. “The prognosis wasn’t good & at the time most stats showed I had 3 to 5 years to live,” says Pat. After months of treatment, her sister was confirmed as a match for a bone marrow transplant. Unfortunately for Pat, her battle was not over. Ten days out of transplant & still in the hospital, Pat’s husband was killed in a car accident. “My family, friends, & the doctors & nursing staff at Park Nicollet helped me through a very difficult time,” shares Pat. “Because, I was now the only parent to my son, I knew I had to fight even harder to survive.” Her doctor told her to remain hopeful because the research & treatments in the pipeline at that time could make five years last a lifetime. “Due to new studies and thanks to research supported by organizations like LLS, today’s blood cancer patients have treatment options that could give them a lifetime,” says Pat. She was deeply touched to be able to hand out Luther Subaru’s donation, especially when her favorite nurses led her into an infusion room to meet Judy, who was getting her very last chemo that day!
